Noun Banned

Posted on January 6, 2010

It was a year ago (i think) i read on the online Star paper that, in Sabah biblical books that was imported from Indonesia was seized due to the word “ALLAH” use in the context referring as GOD in the Bahasa Indonesia.

It was one of the most absurd thing that was told then for me. That’s because i knew that the word Allah was use widely in Indonesia be it by the Islam or Christian religion. Nonetheless, i find it strange because all this while the 20 years of my life i grew up knowing that the noun Allah was only use by Muslims to refer to their god. Being brought up in a multilingual country everything is define to it’s own culture and religion. Automatically, the noun Allah is always known to refer to the Islam god, because in English the word for god is GOD, in Mandarin it is “shen”, and so forth in under languages.

Indonesia, a country where the main language is Bahasa Indonesia is rich with vocabularies, nouns, words, adjectives.. etc. Allah is a accepted word, noun to be use by all. No one fights over what right of another different religion to use in their daily life.

In the landmark ruling, Judge Datuk Lau Bee Lan announced that the word “Allah” is not exclusive to Islam and that the government’s Home Ministry is “not empowered” to ban non-Muslims from using the word.  – the christian post-

There are Groups created on Facebook that are trying to create ruckus

Kami menyokong penggunaan nama ALLAH oleh semua rakyat Malaysia

Prohibition of the Herald to not use the word Allah is a violates freedom of religion and human’s right i should i add.
The origin of the word it self should be check and should be understood on what does it means.

Then again, I read this forum post-

Penggunaan Oh God, Oh My God Di kalangan Orang Islam

I understood the sentiments of the Malaysian Muslims, but yet i feel truly sorry for the crack that was made among others and themselves.

Language is a UNIVERSAL thing… language is suppose to bind us together to unite, to reach out!
Language is suppose to UNITE people!

Only in BOLEHLAND, language or noun to be more precise can cause a heated argument.
Only in BOLEHLAND, religion is such a sensitive issue.
